Philippe Velez McIntyre , is a freelance photographer and social entrepreneur. Born in Paris, he grew up in Colombia and the United States. In the beginning of the eighties he moved back to Europe, first in Madrid and then in Paris. Since the early nineties he lives and works in Amsterdam.

In his work McIntyre combines an esthetical and ethical perspective while crossing artistic, social and political disciplines. He has been especially active in fields where nature and culture meet, like ecological architecture, sustainable food and agriculture, and urban city planning. Other fields of interest are public health and social wellbeing. His approach is at the same time educational and spiritual.

Catastrophisme

” Dans le discours du catastrophisme scientifique,on perçoit distinctement une même délectation à nous détailler les contraintes implacables qui pèsent désormais sur notre survie. Les techniciens de l’administration des choses se bousculent pour annoncer triomphalement la mauvaise nouvelle, celle qui rend enfin oiseuse toute dispute sur le gouvernement des hommes. Le catastrophisme d’État n’est très
ouvertement q’une inlassable propagande pour la survie planifiée – c’est-à-dire pour une version plus autoritairement administrée de ce qui existe. Ses experts n’ont au fond, aprés tant de bilans chiffrés et de calculs d’échéances, q’une seule chose à dire: c’est que l’immensité des enjeux (des”défis”) et l’urgence des mesures à prendre frappe d’inanité l’idée qu’on pourrait ne serait-ce qu’alléger le poids des contraintes sociales,devenues si naturelles”
